Kalon kitchen concept re-imagines the standard Finnish kitchen. It was born of the need for a more durable quality kitchen – a kitchen you only need to purchase once.
The Kalon kitchen is designed to be modified, repaired and relocated as needed. It adapts to different stages of life: it is a kitchen that you can move with you from home to home.
The Kalon kitchen consists of wooden modules that are fixed to supporting metal ladders. The modules can be chosen freely and mixed and matched: drawers, cabinets and shelves can be arranged freely. Each module can be changed independently, which makes the kitchen easy to repair and update. The structure also ensures there is no excess material layers such as double frames or unnecessary back boards.
The modules of the prototype kitchen are made of Finnish Wisa plywood with lignin based glue. The kitchen can be made from materials chosen to suit each project and the client’s preferences.
