Honorary Mention, open architectural competition

The new wooden school building is a bridge between the forest and the center of Lamminrahka. The undulating roof shape is inspired by traditional gabled houses in old finnish wood cities. Three intimate atrium yards perforate the origami-like roof to receive the maximum amount of sunlight and open towards the forest.

The new school complex will be the landmark of Lamminrahka, a new neighborhood that has an emphasis on both the forest and an active lifestyle. The building is interesting and surprising as well as balanced and accessible. On both ends of the building complex there are lap-like decked entrance squares in view of communal night and weekend activities.

The pupils from toddlers to teenagers meet each other in the central learning gallery that unites the different learning cells of the school. The school hall, stage and restaurant are situated by the town square and will form the communal heart of the city, open from morning till night and used by all the age groups from babies to the elderly.
